Chronic Illness

A Note About ...

Relationships are at the core of what it means to be human. They can bring love, belonging, and support. They can also be a source of disappointment, conflict, loneliness, or heartache. Whether your relatoinship is with a significant other, family member, friend, coworker, or even yourself, the quality of your relationships has a profound impact on your wellbeing. The ways we connect with others are shaped by many experiences, including our families, culture, attachment, communication patterns, and the relationships we've witnessed throughout our lives. You may be struggling with recurring conflict, trust, intimacy, boundaries, people pleasing, codependency, dating, family tension, drifting friendships, breakups, or wondering why certain patterns keep repeating themselves. You may also be trying to decide whether to repair a relationship, redefine it, or let it go.

Healthy relationships aren't defined by the absence of conflict. They grow through honesty, mutual respect, trust, emotional safety, and the ability to work through differences together. Counseling offers a space to better understand your relationship patterns without judgment and understand your needs. Together, we'll explore how your past experiences influence the way you connect with others, strengthen communication skills, and work toward relationships that feel secure, authentic, and fulfilling and in alignment with who you are and what you want out of your life and relationships. This requires self-reflection, identifying personal needs and values, and may require looking at alternative perspectives to gain deeper insight.

A Note About ...

Living with chronic illness or chronic pain can change many aspects of your life. It can affect your relationships, ability to work, identity, independence, and the way you function through each day. You may find yourself grieving the life you expected, feeling misunderstood by others, frustrated by your body's unpredictability, or exhausted from constantly having to explain what you're experiencing. Because so chronic illness is often invisible, many individuals feel isolated, dismissed, or misunderstood. There is no single "right" way to manage chronic illness or pain. Some days may feel manageable, while others require everything you have simply to get through. Living with ongoing symptoms often means adjusting to uncertainty, balancing hope with reality, and learning to care for yourself in a world that focuses on productivity over wellbeing.

Counseling provides a place where your experience is believed, respected, and explored without judgment. Together, we'll make space for the emotional impact of living with chronic illness, explore how it has affected your identity and relationships, and work toward understanding what you need to live as fully as possible to align with your therapeutic goals. If desired, counseling can also include mindfulness, somatic awareness, and other holistic approaches that support nervous system regulation and pain managment to help you reconnect with your body in ways that feel safe and compassionate. The goal is to help you better understand your experiences, identify your needs, and build a life that honors your limitations, while working towards improving your quality of life through self-compassion.
